BE CAREFUL LITTLE CHILDREN OF GOD, HOW YOU VOTE!
What’s ailing our spiritual lives are not only drugs, alcohol, and tobacco
nor the smut we see in movies, tv, and social media
or what we do in the privacy of our homes.
The insidious violence committed by self-proclaimed spiritual folk
is what they do in the privacy of that voting booth
placing bets on people of power who offer the moon,
people of power, people who lie
to further enrich themselves
and those who have much, much more
than they need,
those who have much more
than they should.
What happens in that voting booth
often becomes an act of complicity
in exacerbating an already unjust economy,
an economy that relegates tens of millions
to a type of enslavement,
an endless agony of stress
that assaults the health of people,
of families,
of children.
Surely, can we not adjudicate our spiritual values
by something other than our devotion
to our place of worship
or our personal virtues?
The GREAT GAP
between those who have plenty
and those who struggle
to stay afloat, economically,
is, in large part, facilitated
by those of us who are deluded
in believing that voting
is simply our personal business.
The God up above is looking down with love,
be careful child of God,
how you vote.
