IN SEARCH OF A PEOPLE

Much of life,

at least as an adult,

entails a search for one’s people,

these kindred souls,

those who share common convictions

regarding matters of faith,

both private and public.

The search for this common familial faith

requires a thorough analysis

of one’s personal affinity

for a particular people

who share a view of faith

that incorporates a serious and informed

view of scripture,

a perspective of public faith

that reflects the centrality

of justice and compassion

and an honest acknowledgment

that shards of truth are often discovered

as one seeks to live with integrity

in the face of all

the changes that life brings.

The goal of this lifelong pursuit

for one’s people is to find

genuine community

where trust, grace and joy prevail.
